Shauna Panczyszyn is a junior graphic designer at Body Central, Corp. She works on projects ranging from print design to collateral, and even some posters when called for. But the Always Summer Show gave her an opportunity to design a poster of her own!
She created an original design for “Girl and the Sea” by The Presets.
“There’s something about ‘Girl and the Sea’ by the presets that makes me feel like I am by the ocean relaxing. It’s one of my songs I listen to when I want to relax while designing, not really any particular memory associated with it.”
“I knew I wanted to go with lettering for my poster, and I wanted to keep it simple. Since the song flows so smoothly I decided to use watercolors in typical beachy colors to frame the type, and then in a last minute decision stuck with black for the type itself.”
“I started drawing out the words individually, and then scanning them into the computer. From there I vectorized them and arranged them as I wanted them and connected them together so they were coherent. I then pulled the file into Photoshop and began adding the watercolor behind it by way of photoshop brushes.”
“I love being involved in AIGA and wanted to take the opportunity to do a creative project that had nothing to do with work. At the time I was just freelancing so I didn’t have many projects between job hunting and freelance so it was an opportunity to exercise my creative muscles. It was my first year participating but not my last!”
